Welcome to this week’s blog - as always, thanks for having a read. The six weeks of Summer are over, schools resume this coming week, and the long, lazy days will become an ever dimmer memory. Our area derives a large part of its income from tourism, what we may not appreciate is the positive impact of appearing in a TV programme. For instance, if like us you watch the Channel 5 remake of All Creatures Great and Small, you probably have thought about taking a trip to Yorkshire. As it turns out, our county is home to one of the most used towns by TV, as you can read here: - https://www.sussexexpress.co.uk/news/people/west-sussex-town-named-among-uks-top-tv-show-capitals-5283842   Regular readers will know Donna and I have had a busy summer, but last weekend we stayed in a Riverside hotel in Worcester, home of Lea and Perrins. We visited Witley Court and Gardens which has an interesting baroque church in its grounds. We also went to Worcester Cathedral which houses the UK's l...

Welcome to this week’s blog - as always, thanks for having a read. The six weeks of Summer are nearly over; this is August Bank Holiday weekend so, wherever you go, please do not leave any litter.  On Tuesday we had an update on Local Government Reform from the CEO of Chichester District Council, which fed back on results from the Shaping West Sussex survey. I then joined Curt and Ian for a Town Council websites meeting. The official STC site uses a content editing package contracted through CDC so we have to prepare for when they no longer exist. We considered ideas for addressing this and a range of possible content, agreeing our next step is to work out exactly what is essential, what might be useful and what might be desirable. This will include considering new guidance for councils that had only been received just before the meeting. In the evening Donna and I had an Extraordinary Full Chichester District Council meeting to adopt the revised Local Plan. This has been ‘...

This week, whilst Donna was focused on County matters, I caught up with the staff in Selsey Town Hall to make sure they are managing with the extra pressures of ongoing vacancies during the holiday season. Donna and I also checked reports of car park incursions, which proved to be ill-founded, while Mick and Val helped with the RNLI Selsey Lifeboat Week fireworks. This coming week is a busy one: on Tuesday I have an update on Local Government Reform from the CEO of Chichester District Council, then with Curt and Ian, have a Selsey Town Council website meeting because the content editing package is contracted through CDC, so we need to start planning and preparing for when they no longer exist. Also on Tuesday Ali, Ian, Andrew, Donna and I have a Personnel Committee meeting, then in the evening there's an Extraordinary Full Chichester District Council meeting to adopt the revised Local Plan. If you are a newer reader, this is where CDC plans to allow housing developments to be bui...

Welcome to this week’s blog - as always, thanks for having a read. Our thoughts are particularly with A Level students who get their results on Thursday (August 14th) - we hope you get the grades you want for your next step in life, but if not, there's always another route! Don't forget the RNLI's Selsey Lifeboat Week is nearly over and it culminates with Selsey Lifeboat Day on Sunday (August 10th.) This week Mick and Val returned to the lighting shed, now electrical supplies have arrived. In four hours they managed ten Christmas trees, but obviously there is still a lot to do. For newer readers, they start work on mending and replacing parts of Selsey’s Christmas lights in February. The lights suffer from coastal winds, etc whilst they are up and take months to prepare for the next festive season.  On Wednesday, Donna and Val had Chichester District Council's Planning Committee while Ali, Ian, and I had our fortnightly catch-up with Selsey Town Council’s Senior Team. C...

Welcome to this week’s blog - as always, thanks for having a read. Don't forget the RNLI's Selsey Lifeboat Week, is coming up, culminating in Lifeboat Day on Sunday 10th August, 2025. This week Donna focused on several ongoing sensitive family issues for our residents and I popped into Selsey Town Hall a few times to try to support officers as Selsey Town Council is still understaffed. There are several projects in the pipeline we would rather were not delayed. Donna and I also had a meeting of Chichester District Council's Regeneration & Growth Board on Thursday. Although I am trying to share more about what happens in meetings, this one is confidential because we are considering commercial projects. Next week Donna and Val have Chichester District Council's Planning Committee on Wednesday while Ali, Ian, and I have our fortnightly catch-up with Selsey Town Council’s Senior Team. You can watch meetings live: CDC and WSCC . You may have heard that Chichester D...
