August 22, 2025
Welcome to this week’s blog - as always, thanks for having a read.
The six weeks of Summer are nearly over; this is August Bank Holiday weekend so, wherever you go, please do not leave any litter.
On Tuesday we had an update on Local Government Reform from the CEO of Chichester District Council, which fed back on results from the Shaping West Sussex survey. I then joined Curt and Ian for a Town Council websites meeting. The official STC site uses a content editing package contracted through CDC so we have to prepare for when they no longer exist. We considered ideas for addressing this and a range of possible content, agreeing our next step is to work out exactly what is essential, what might be useful and what might be desirable. This will include considering new guidance for councils that had only been received just before the meeting.
In the evening Donna and I had an Extraordinary Full Chichester District Council meeting to adopt the revised Local Plan. This has been ‘live’ since we joined CDC in 2019: the Local Plan is particularly important to Selsey and the Peninsula because it allocates where housing developments are to go. Just before the end of our first term we secured a zero allocation for further development here. The adoption of the Local Plan gives our District control of developments, within our government imposed target. Without it we are open to speculative applications which often we have no way of refusing.
On Thursday, Ian and I had our fortnightly catch up with Selsey Town Council's Senior Team. The Manor Green Park refurbishment will soon be officially opened and the Warners Yard toilets are close to completion. Preparations are continuing for Remembrance Sunday and Selsey’s Christmas illuminations. We also started to look at how we could save money on IT.
You can watch meetings live: CDC and WSCC.
Last week we shared an interesting read about being content with your ‘success.’ it seems appropriate this week to share a similar one which suggests things to avoid so you don’t end up living with regrets:
Chichester District Council has expanded its garden recycling service so it now covers the whole of our District. It costs £76.00 per year. They are also doing quite a bit to help with biodiversity including using cameras to help monitor sites for habitat improvements as, you can read here; -

My Sister's House is seeking local shops prepared to host one of their toiletry collection boxes to help survivors of domestic abuse. If you can help, or know someone who could, email fundraising@mysistershouse.info
Finally: -
As always, from the whole Team, stay safe.
Tim
