Welcome to this week's blog - as always thank you for having a read.

It’s been another busy week which began with Donna having Chichester District Council’s Joint Employee Consultative Panel on Tuesday, whose proceedings are understandably private. On Wednesday Mick, Val and Donna had Planning training at CDC, before we all had the next Full Selsey Town Council Meeting which included reviewing Council documents and considering the Council’s contribution to CDC’s consultation on its draft Infrastructure Business Plan. We also accepted the chance to work with West Sussex County Council’s Bus Stop Improvement Plan because it offers a significant opportunity to secure Government-funded investment in Selsey's bus infrastructure, including free replacement of existing Town Council-owned  shelters, potential digital information displays maintained by WSCC at no cost to Selsey Town Council, and additional seating for travellers, whilst ensuring Selsey has a direct voice in future transport and bus service discussions.

On Thursday Steve, Ian, Andrew, Donna and I had STC’s Personnel Committee which mainly meets in private session but included looking at some policy updates. Because of the gas works at Stockbridge, Donna and I then stayed overnight in Chichester as she had to be at County Hall before 09:00 the next morning. This was for a final briefing before the next Full West Sussex County Council which included some constitutional changes and an unsuccessful motion proposing WSCC withdraw from all voluntary refugee resettlement schemes. Donna posted in detail about this as you can see on her feed, which is embedded in our home page.

Regular readers will know we are alternating Tim’s Travels with 60 from Selsey. The idea for Tim's Travels occurred to me after filming the second episode of 60 from Selsey, which we put out last week. This episode is the first of a short series considering flood risk. It was filmed on a Sunday afternoon in Slindon where the beach used to be until half a million years ago:

Looking back to more recent times, campaigners are calling for the return of two Sussex train lines closed by Beeching to improve transport links and make travel more sustainable. I recently spotted that the Flying Scotsman is touring again so hope to catch up with it this year. My father used to mention it a lot. If these lines were ever reinstated, that would make it quite a bit easier to do so:

Our impact on our climate is a growing concern, particularly as weather patterns change in ways we would wish were not the case. In Iceland they are considering drilling into an active volcano to harness more heat energy. I think the idea has merit but would not fancy living nearby - what about you?

A less scary prospect is of course Halloween. If you like getting a fresh, high quality pumpkin you are living in the right place because two of the UK’s most highly rated pumpkin farms are in Sussex:

As always, from the whole Team, stay safe.

Tim
