Welcome to this week’s blog - as always, thanks for having a read.
Last weekend we made several trips to the Westhampnett Recycling Centre because we are doing one or two things in the house. Although booking a suitable slot was quite straightforward, we noticed when we got there that the improvement in the weather has got many other residents doing the same. We always find the staff very helpful and, as a result, empty the car quite quickly.
On Monday, Donna had a Harbour Conservancy meeting at County Hall, then on Wednesday Chichester District Council’s Grants and Concessions Panel. The panel looked at several applications for Discretionary Rate Relief and for the Improving Places and Spaces and the Stronger Communities programmes. On Thursday she was joined by Val for their Housing, Communities, Culture and Sports Panel which included an update on progress with CDC’s Housing, Homelessness and Rough Sleeping Strategy for 2025 - 2030. Because of the heat wave, the meeting was moved online.
Next week Donna will be in the Chair for CDC’s Overview and Scrutiny Committee on Tuesday, joined by Val. The agenda includes Donna's annual report on what the Committee has done for agreement before it comes to Full Council and the Social Prescribing Evaluation Report for 2025/26.
The next day Donna and Val have CDC’s Planning Committee.
We hope to hear the Government's final decision on the Sussex Unitaries, i.e., Local Government Reform, by July 16th, 2026 now their further consultation has ended. The question for our area is whether we will be joined with Worthing, Adur and Arun or Crawley, Horsham and Mid-Sussex.

When I was growing up there was a significant emphasis on family meal times which I thought, at the time, was just a parental thing; however, it seems that if we often share meals with others it can improve our wellbeing as you can read here: -
The Summer holidays are nearly here so don’t forget this year’s free Summer Reading Challenge in West Sussex libraries, Read to the Beat, which encourages children to explore the link between storytelling and sound. Children can register now ready to start in any of the 36 libraries from July 4th, 2026. Running throughout the summer until September 12th, 2026, the challenge is aimed at children aged 4 to 11 years, whilst under-4s can take part in a Mini Challenge. Once registered at libraries.westsussex.gov.uk/src, children receive a special code word. They then reveal this to staff at their local library to get a Read to the Beat sticker booklet and a bespoke edition of Storytime magazine.

As always, from the whole Team, stay safe.
