May 1, 2026

Welcome to this week’s blog - as always, thanks for having a read and we hope you enjoy the Bank holiday weekend..

We will be campaigning hard over the weekend encouraging people to vote to help Donna get re-elected to represent the Selsey Division of West Sussex County Council this coming Thursday, May 7th 2026. At the last WSCC election turnout in Selsey was only 33% so we are asking everyone to not sit this one out, as your vote has real weight.

Quite often when we are campaigning, I bump into one or more of my former students. They have changed somewhat since I taught them over twenty years ago. I am also in touch with some from other places I have taught and discovered this week that one of them is also a teacher now, in a primary school in Bexley.

This is our thank you video which we have released now before people vote as we are grateful for all the support and encouragement we have received. For instance, one resident who spoke to me this week is turning out on his birthday because he has noticed mail coming through his door and wants to keep Donna as our County Councillor::

On Wednesday Ian and Andrew had Selsey Town Council’s Planning Committee - Mick and Val are still on holiday celebrating their many years together. Unsurprisingly this coming week there are no meetings, to free officers up for polling day, and in the case of Chichester District Council, the count the following day. Normally the separate divisions are counted in alphabetical order which means that Selsey and The Witterings are last. The day starts with verification when boxes are opened and the number of ballot papers in them is counted so later, when the counts begin, the total of the respective candidates votes can be checked against the overall number cast to make sure no ballot has been missed.

You can watch CDC meetings here and watch WSCC meetings here.

I am not sure what time next week’s blog will be out because we expect to be in for a long day at the count. I am used to long days having run two businesses and, in teaching, never knowing quite when I will head home because each day brings unexpected things. Apparently, in the UK, we are working longer while Americans are working less, according to the Financial Times, which is making our working patterns more similar.

Finally:  -

As always, from the whole Team, stay safe.

Tim
