Welcome to this week’s blog - as always, thanks for having a read.

We want to particularly thank all of you who were so positive about Donna being elected Chairman of West Sussex County Council a week ago today on Friday May 22nd. Ali and Ian were there to witness it. My post in the morning with the live stream link was very well received and widely viewed. There were even nice words about how Donna did from people in Arun. If you watched it, you may have seen the former Leader try to throw her a curveball by asking for a vote for the unopposed new Leader so his group could abstain. Having looked at comments on this, I am pleased people thought Donna handled it well.

There were no public meetings last week, in part due to half term, but we had casework to progress and that involved some private meetings.

On Tuesday, Steve has Chichester District Council’s Standards Committee which includes consideration of a minor change to the wording of one sentence in the constitution and the annual report from the Monitoring Officer on her investigation into complaints about Members.

You can watch CDC meetings here and watch WSCC meetings here.

Last week we shared the news that Sussex has three of the top ten piers in the country, which is good news wherever you may live because visitor footfall is so important to our local economy. In a similar vein, a West Sussex beach (which is not the one you think) has been named the best in the South East to visit this summer by LNER (London North Eastern Railway.) As beauty is in the eye of the beholder, this is obviously very subjective so see what you think: -

I have been on the beach a lot in the last week, as I suspect many of you have too. I was there trying one of two things out which may or may not come to fruition. Every time I was there I was warmly greeted by residents. Over the weekend we checked each day and noticed how busy the beach was during the heatwave and, consequently, the roads across the Peninsula. On Sunday I met a retired plumber called Barry who asked to be included in this week’s blog. He had to retire because of cancer, something none of us think will happen. We had a good chat about a range of things, including the worsening cost of living and the impact the US - Iran war has had on it. He asked me about the significance of the County election results and is glad Selsey holds the balance at West Sussex and will have more influence because he feels we can be forgotten.

Finally:  -

As always, from the whole Team, stay safe.
