April 17, 2026

Welcome to this week’s blog - as always, thanks for having a read. Donna and I also want to thank all those residents who have greeted us, and the team, so warmly this week, as we continued campaigning for the Selsey Division of West Sussex County Council on Thursday May 7th, 2026. To vote for Donna, you must be registered by 20th April 2026.

Alli has been focusing on the vicinity of East Street and is quite a veteran campaigner now. Apparently her first campaign delivery experience led her to buy an external post box out of sympathy for our posties. I always get a bruise or two from heavier letter boxes whose inner flap is hard to budge but it is great exercise and we always get a warm reception. We have a refreshed respect for our posties, again!

Donna and I have gone wherever we are needed. As Independents, we have no big party machine to call upon, so we not only produce all our digital, and paper campaign materials, but also deliver them to residents as well. Donna’s national party opponents are better resourced and able to tap into a range of support we simply do not have access to. We are therefore under no illusion that we are, as usual, ‘David’ facing several Goliaths. We believe, as this is a local election, the focus should be on local issues, and about protecting our community here in Selsey. Whatever the outcome, West Sussex County Council doesn't decide national policy, but we need to ensure Selsey is not overlooked.

This week, despite Purdah, Donna and Val had Chichester District Council’s Planning Committee on Wednesday morning then, in the evening, the whole team had Full Selsey Town Council Meeting. We adopted the revised Terms of Reference for the Personnel Committee the Proper Officer and I, in my capacity as Chair of the Committee, have been working on, adopted some new policies relating to communications and considered some community grant applications.

You can watch CDC meetings here and watch WSCC meetings here.

You may have either gone to the Coastal Partners Selsey Sea Defences progress update in the Selsry Centre today, Friday, or are intending to go tomorrow. In Portsmouth they are trialling an interesting idea, floating wetlands to boost degraded coastal environments:

To close, here's an interesting idea that I saw whilst scanning The Independent. I don't have to be an expert to predict that fuel poverty may worsen because of the present global situation. The New. Economics Foundation thinks every household should be given enough energy to provide hot water and run key appliances

Finally:  -

As always, from the whole Team, stay safe.
