December 5, 2025

Welcome to this week’s blog - as always, thanks for having a read.

Last weekend the lights went on in several places locally, including Selsey (in both the High Street and East Beach Parade, on Saturday, November 29th.) Mick, Val, Donna, Ali and I helped the Friends of East Beach with their event. We wish to thank all of you who came along.  Thanks also to Selsey Town Council for ensuring that these highly valued family events took place

Chichester District Council’s Festive markets return to North Street and East Street in Chichester city centre on the 6th, 7th, 13th, and 14th December, with the Saturday markets running from 9am until 5pm, and the Sunday markets running from 10am until 4pm.

The National Trust are well known for the Festive experiences they stage in their properties. This is their Christmas in Sussex page: -

This week, I had a catch up with Selsey Town Council’s Senior Officers on Monday. On Wednesday, Donna had Chichester District Council’s Planning Committee, then in the evening we crunched some budget numbers in Selsey Town Hall. On Thursday Donna had CDC’s Regeneration Board which I missed as it was held during the school day.

Next week Donna has Full West Sussex County Council on Friday. On Tuesday, Steve joins her for Chichester District Council’s Overview and Scrutiny Committee and on Wednesday, Val joins her for CDC’s Development, Planning and Infrastructure Panel. Later, Mick, Mindy, Ian, Val and Andrew will meet for STC’s Planning Committee.

You can watch meetings live: CDC and WSCC.

I mentioned last week that Selsey’s newest town councillor, Reform’s Matt Davison, has a hotel/pub near my school. I have yet to meet him but may have driven past when I visited a nearby school. If I don't see him at December's Full Selsey Town Council meeting, I will try and drop in after school one day to say ‘Hello.’

December 1st to 7th is Chrohn’s and Colitis Awareness week. Someone we know reminded us with a very good post: -

*Living with these conditions is different everyday, some days are manageable, others are incredibly tough. The flare ups, the fatigue, the unpredictability, they’re all part of a reality most people never see. It’s much more than “just a bad stomach”.

This week is an opportunity to highlight that these conditions are invisible, but we aren’t. The more people who understand, the more support, recognition, and compassion we can build (& hopefully go some way in reducing the stigma)!

To anyone trying to live their life despite it, you’re not alone, and to those who stand by us on the hard days — thank you, it means a lot.”

Chichester District Council is applying for funds from the Environment Agency so vital works to a 250-metre section of Selsey’s existing coastal defences can take place. This is separate to the main Selsey Coastal Scheme which may not start until 2030, which is why extra funding is needed for the urgent repairs at West Beach.

Finally:  -

As always, from the whole Team, stay safe.
