November 7. 2025

Welcome to this week’s blog - as always, thanks for having a read.

Christmas is on the way, and there are only 3 weeks until the lights go in in Selsey in both the High Street and East Beach Parade on Saturday, November 29th.

For your diary, the following two weekends, December 6 & 7 and December 13 & 14, see the return of the Chichester Festive Market.

You may have noticed Christmas adverts appearing this week - I came across those from Sainsbury’s and John Lewis. They are both poignant, particularly the John Lewis one which ends with an appeal to download the song ‘Angel on the Tree’ by Sam Clegg, from iTunes or Amazon Music, to help support elderly people who will be alone over Xmas.

In addition to casework meetings, on Monday Donna had West Sussex County Council’s Governace Committee and went on to a meeting relating to Planning concerns in Sidlesham. On Wednesday she was joined by Val for Chichester District Council’s Planning Committee in the morning. That evening we all had a short Extraordinary Full Selsey Town Council meeting to consider a personnel matter. Next week, I have treasury management training at Chichester District Council which is for Members of the Corporate Governance and Audit Committee but open to all members. West Sussex County Council's Appeals panel meets on Thursday which means Donna has a clash with Chichester District Council’s Housing, Communities, Culture and Sports Panel. The previous evening, Mike, Ian, Andrew Donna and I have Selsey Town Council’s Finance and Administration Group.

You can watch meetings live: CDC and WSCC.

Don’t forget this Sunday, November 9, is Remembrance Sunday. Having successfully got policy changed, I will proudly lay a wreath from CDC as will Steve, Val and Mick. Donna will lay one on behalf of West Sussex, and later that day, one on behalf of CDC at Sidlesham. There will be road closures in place in Chichester, the Witterings and Selsey. On the plus side, if you join us in Selsey, there is free tea and coffee in the Town Hall afterwards. Donna is helping serve so I suspect I will end up doing the washing up.

With the budget getting ever closer, money is high in many peoples’ minds. This article has a postcode checker which allows you to see how postcode compares with others: -

Microplastics and their presence in our bodies are also an increasing worry. Greenpeace has launched a petition calling for more action to reduce the use of plastics: -

Finally:  -

As always, from the whole Team, stay safe.
