November 21, 2025

Welcome to this week’s blog - as always, thanks for having a read. Please remember to check on anyone you know who lives alone, because of the noticeably colder weather.

We wish to congratulate Matthew Davison who has been elected to Selsey Town Council with just over half the votes cast on a turnout of 24% (so securing a mandate from 13.6% of the total electorate in Selsey North.) We look forward to working with you and will be interested to see how Reform's national agenda translates into the day to day running of Selsey’s affairs, which is what the Town Council does. We did not stand because we didn't want to be complicit in costing Selsey around £7000 for only 17 months of tenure.

There is one week left until the lights go on in several places locally including Selsey (in both the High Street and East Beach Parade on Saturday, November 29th.) Mick, Val, Donna and I were asked to help Friends of East Beach with their event, and are happy to help out! Chichester District Council’s Festive markets return to North Street and East Street in Chichester city centre on Decmeber 6th, 7th, 13th and 14th, with the Saturday markets running from 9am until 5pm, and the Sunday markets running from 10am until 4pm.

We are asking you to spare a thought for vulnerable young people by drawing attention to The Independent launch of Safecall to help them find safety: -

We are also asking you to remember elderly people who might be alone over the festive period, which can be particularly poignant. Whilst we all look forward to retirement, as an escape from the ‘daily drudge’, there are some downsides to watch out for if you are going to more fully enjoy it: -

Sadly Christmas is also a time when criminals sense an opportunity and try to, using the colloquial, ‘rip people off.’ Check your online passwords are all unique and are also secure - you might want to think twice about writing them down. You should also check delivery addresses and your contact details are correct too. Most importantly keep all your devices updated because otherwise you are vulnerable (without realising you are!)

Last Saturday, Donna, and I were running errands and visited a nearby craft and small business fair. Everywhere we went we noticed a significant increase in the number of people out and about, obviously because Christmas is getting nearer and nearer. We made time to frequent Serving Thyme in Ford on the edge of the prison. It is run by inmates nearing the end of their sentences and is well worth a visit. They are very friendly and couldn't be more helpful, the range of dishes on the menu is not the most extensive but is more than sufficient, and the food is well prepared.

This week, Val, Steve, Donna and I had Full Chichester District Council on Tuesday, which included agreeing to purchase replacement bin lorries, funding food waste collections and council tax discounts. Mick, Val, Ian, Mindy and Andrew had Selsey Town Council’s Planning Committee on Wednesday and Donna had West Sussex County Council’s Health and Social Care Committee on Friday. Next week at West Sussex, Donna has the Children and Young People Services Scrutiny Committee. That evening we all have Full Selsey Town Council.

You can watch meetings live: CDC and WSCC.

The Government consultation about the different proposals for Local Government Reorganisation in Sussex is live: -
