Welcome to this week’s blog - as always, thanks for having a read.
Christmas is on the way, and Selsey Town Council have given grants to ensure there are festive goings-on in both the High Street and East Beach Parade on Saturday, November 29th making Selsey the go to destination that day. Donna and I will be helping the Friends of East Beach: I am Santa’s ‘Bouncer’ again, managing the queue to see him - long running readers will know this is a bit of a busman’s holiday for me as I regularly control the lunch queue at school. Christmas is Donna's favourite time of year because it is the only time of the year when everything stops. I enjoy it as well but am also happy in the six weeks of summer. If, like me, you noticed that general contentment changes depending on your stage in life, this article might ring true for you: -

There has been some debate about whether next May’s West Sussex County Council elections should be postponed or not. We think this makes sense because they cost a lot of money to stage and a year later all of Sussex will be electing our new Unitary Councils. (They will operate in shadow form for the 2027/2028 financial year so they can get ready to take over from the County and District / Borough Councils.)
Similarly, as the next elections are in 2027, we stood aside on the basis that over £7000 was too much for Selsey residents to pay for only 17 months. On Monday the names of the three candidates standing were published. We wish you all luck and hope you campaign on what you would do for our residents, locally if you are elected. This isn't about national issues.
Half Term week tends to have fewer formal meetings but Mick, Val, Mindy and Andrew had Selsey Town Council’s Planning Committee on Wednesday evening. Next week, Val and Donna have Chichester District Council’s Planning Committee on Wednesday. That evening there is a short Extraordinary Full Selsey Town Council meeting to consider a personnel matter and Donna has a number of meetings re residents’ issues.
You can watch meetings live: CDC and WSCC.
Don’t forget Sunday, November 9, 2025 is Remembrance Sunday and there will be road closures in place. For instance, in Selsey the High Street will be shut from 10:15am to 11:45am between St. Peters roundabout and the traffic light junction with Warner’s Yard while School Lane will also be closed from The Academy to the High Street. Having successfully got policy changed, I will proudly lay a wreath from CDC as will Steve, Val and Mick (on Donna's behalf as she lays one from WSCC.)
There is a petition to maintain a key service at St Richards:
West Sussex County Council’s highways team has been strengthening our road network for winter e.g. 164.6 miles of surfacing and large-scale patching, fulfilling 8 large scale and 25 small scale capital drainage schemes, and repairing 13,977 potholes. They are also clearing more drains so water can run off the roads and working with district and borough councils, who have responsibility for clearing the roadside gullies. They have checked their gritters, removed 1277 diseased or dangerous trees, cut back vegetation and cleaned roadside signs.
Finally: -
As always, from the whole Team, stay safe.
Tim
