Welcome to this week’s blog - as always, thanks for having a read.

We increasingly hear talk about mental resilience, and building it. This is an interesting checklist of things you may or may not be able to do alone: -

Last week I mentioned Donna and I finally got a break away just before the holidays were over in Worcester. As a follow up I thought I would touch on St Wulfstan who has an Arthurian legend attached to him. He was the Saxon Bishop when the Normans conquered England. The legend is that when asked to surrender his staff and ring, Wulfstan placed the staff on the tomb of the Anglo-Saxon King Edward the Confessor, claiming only the King could retrieve it. The staff remained fixed until Wulfstan picked it up, allowing him to keep his position.

This week Mick and Val continued their work on Selsey's Christmas lights - they take a great deal of work, and time.

On Tuesday, it was the official opening of the refurbished Manor Park in Selsey. I wasn’t there because I was back at school, but despite the weather, it looks like a good time was had by all. The play park and Bark Park were funded via developers’ contributions, from the recent housing developments.

On Wednesday morning there was an update for Members of Chichester District Council and West Sussex County Council on Local Government Reorganisation. In late September, there will be special meetings of West Sussex County Council and CDC to decide which option for our County, one Unitary or two, they will each support. The government will then consult before reaching a final decision. On Wednesday evening, Ian, Mick and Val had Selsey Town Council's Planning Committee. On Thursday, Ian and I had our fortnightly catch up with Selsey Town Council's Senior Team which included Warners Yard toilets, website considerations and the provision of benches but not Remembrance preparations as our Deputy Clerk, Jenny Ririe, is on holiday.

Ian has posted an interesting timelapse video on YouTube of cycling Bill Way to RSPB Pagham from Selsey.

Next week’s meetings include Full Selsey Town Council on Wednesday evening, preceded by Chichester District Council's Planning Committee for Donna and Val in the morning. Val and I also have CDC Licensing training (on Monday) and Donna has her first Children and Young people's Scrutiny Committee at West Sussex which she was recently appointed to.

You can watch meetings live: CDC and WSCC.

Seven years ago, CDC launched their Social Prescribing service to offer tailored support to connect people with activities, groups, and services in their community that help meet their practical, social, and emotional needs. They are running a series of pop-up events at GP practices across the north of our District, including Petworth Surgery on 10th September and Loxwood Medical Practice on 17th September. These events offer a relaxed and confidential space where residents can meet their advisors to explore the support that’s available, including help with loneliness and isolation, housing or financial concerns, digital inclusion, managing a caring role, or making positive lifestyle changes such as stopping smoking, managing weight, or becoming more physically active.

They also offer a similar service for young people aged 13 to 25, introduced, initially, in response to the impact of the pandemic.

Finally: -

As always, from the whole Team, stay safe.
