Welcome to this week’s blog - as always, thanks for having a read. Sussex, and in particular our area, is one of the more scenic places to live in the UK, although most places have something to recommend them. If you aren’t convinced, have a read about our Marden villages and a nature reserve we recently tried to visit but found the car park was overflowing: - https://share.google/YkLOniE4Ou51rZhif   https://www.sussexexpress.co.uk/news/people/chichester-nature-reserve-named-one-of-englands-best-hidden-gems-5311785   Monday was a special day for me because although I now only teach four days a week, this was the first one that has been meeting free - Donna and I stayed in Ryde on Sunday, so we could be back in good time on Monday to better prepare for Tuesday’s meetings. On Tuesday, it was the separate West Sussex County Council and Chichester District Council decision meetings on whether they intend to support a single Unitary model or two for our County. As you probably know...

Welcome to this week’s blog - as always, thanks for having a read. Sooner or later we are all going to retire. I know from talking to colleagues at work that many people don’t really give retirement, and in particular pensions, any thought until it is nearly upon them. There are changes on the way that may affect when people can afford to retire: - https://share.google/splaP8UoyrSYjc1Ue   On Monday Donna and I informally caught up with Officers in Selsey Town Hall before travelling to Chichester District Council for a Regeneration and Growth Board Meeting.  Donna had West Sussex County Council’s Health and Social Care Committee on Wednesday, while I had my fortnightly catch-up with Selsey Town Council's Senior Officers on Thursday which focussed on Remembrance preparations and community engagement.  Next Tuesday. September 23rd, are the separate West Sussex County Council and Chichester District Council decision meetings on whether they intend to support a single Unitary ...

Welcome to this week’s blog - as always, thanks for having a read. Although our District is a great place to live, because it is so rural, your car, if you have one, can pick up the odd minor scratch. For me it is worsened by my clocking a lot of miles commuting inside the M25. There is a ‘cloth’ claiming to use nano technology to reinvigorate the molecules in your paintwork and remove just such scratches. On Amazon I found I could get a pack of four Nanosparkle cloths for just £8.99, so I took a punt. I have so far tried it once - they are reusable - and think it actually helped because a small scratch now looks more like a pencil line: I am not so sure about slightly larger ones so intend to try it several times to be sure. If you like a walk, this is an interesting read about a route around Selsey which allows you to learn more about its historic buildings: - https://www.sussexexpress.co.uk/heritage-and-retro/retro/new-walking-trail-launched-in-selsey-with-free-leaflet-provid...

Welcome to this week’s blog - as always, thanks for having a read. We increasingly hear talk about mental resilience, and building it. This is an interesting checklist of things you may or may not be able to do alone: - https://vegoutmag.com/lifestyle/z-lc-if-you-can-do-these-7-things-alone-psychology-says-youre-mentally-stronger-than-most/   Last week I mentioned Donna and I finally got a break away just before the holidays were over in Worcester. As a follow up I thought I would touch on St Wulfstan who has an Arthurian legend attached to him. He was the Saxon Bishop when the Normans conquered England. The legend is that when asked to surrender his staff and ring, Wulfstan placed the staff on the tomb of the Anglo-Saxon King Edward the Confessor, claiming only the King could retrieve it. The staff remained fixed until Wulfstan picked it up, allowing him to keep his position.  This week Mick and Val continued their work on Selsey's Christmas lights - they take a great deal of...
