Welcome to this week’s blog - as always, thanks for having a read. Please be careful in the heat - I helped Year 8 PE at school today, Friday, watching a rounders match as it soared to 30C, so if you go outside keep to the shade and drink plenty of water.
Last Saturday, June 14th, Donna and I were honoured to be invited to the wedding of Mick and Val’s youngest son Steve to the newest Mrs Weller, Lisa. Once again we wish them the best.
On Monday Donna had West Sussex County Council’s Governance Committee. On Wednesday she and Val had Chichester District Council’s Development, Planning and Infrastructure Panel before we all had Full Selsey Town Council in the evening. It was a long agenda which included reviewing key documents and an evaluation of the very successful VE80 event. Next week Donna and I have Chichester District Council’s Budget Review Group on Monday then its Regeneration and Growth board on Tuesday. Donna has West Sussex County Council’s Health and Social Care Committee on Wednesday which clashes with Chichester District Council’s Grants and Concessions Panel. CDC has been aerating the pond at East Beach in Selsey and all being well the fish will begin to be moved to a more suitable home on Monday.

Sadly the incidence of bowel cancer is increasing in the Under-50s. There might be a simple solution as you can read here: -
A reminder that a major new exhibition celebrating one of Chichester’s most iconic local brands will open at The Novium Museum on Saturday 12th July 2025. ‘Hurrah for Shippam’s’ explores the extraordinary story of the Shippam’s company - from its beginnings as a family grocer in 1786 to its rise as a beloved household name. Funded by a £44,593 grant from Arts Council England, the exhibition is the culmination of an ambitious project to catalogue and share the museum’s extensive Shippam’s advertising archive. Over the past year, museum staff and volunteers have digitised historic material and gathered personal stories from the local community through oral history interviews.
Chichester District Council’s free Wellbeing service is available to adults who live or work in our District. It is designed to support people in making healthier lifestyle choices. The goal is to help reduce the risk of serious health conditions such as heart disease, stroke, Type 2 diabetes, and some forms of cancer. At the heart of the programme is a dedicated team of Wellbeing Advisers who offer personalised support in areas such as weight management, healthy eating, smoking cessation, alcohol reduction, falls prevention, and increasing physical activity. These advisers work closely with individuals to help them make manageable lifestyle changes that can lead to lasting improvements in health. Free one-to-one appointments are available for anyone looking to explore healthier habits or make specific changes.
Some examples of their work are:-
The HeartSmart Walks programme which offers volunteer-led guided walks at different locations across our District. These walks take place two to three times a week throughout the year and are designed to be inclusive for all ages and abilities, offering a great way to stay active and meet new people.
Supporting local businesses through its Workplace Health Adviser, who works directly with employers and staff to promote healthier habits in the workplace. Free wellbeing check-ins are offered on-site, followed by tailored advice to address the specific needs of each organisation.
12-week weight loss workshops, one-off falls prevention workshops, and a 24-week course for individuals who are concerned about falling or have experienced a fall in the past. This course aims to help participants feel more confident and steadier on their feet.
Finally: -
As always, from the whole Team, stay safe.
Tim
