Welcome to this week’s blog - as always, thanks for having a read.
We also wish to thank all those of you who came to Selsey’s Town Meeting on Tuesday in the Selsey Centre, and to those of you who thanked us for our continued endeavours. The next day, when Officers collated numbers, they learnt there had been a record attendance. On Wednesday the whole team had Full Selsey Town Council which included releasing funding from reserves for Selsey’s VE80 and Remembrance Day commemorations and updates on major projects which include Manor Green as Selsey Town Council shared on social media: -
“We’re thrilled to share that Manor Green Park—just behind the Selsey Centre—is set for a much-needed transformation in 2025!
For too long, this green space has been underused, with outdated play equipment and seasonal flooding holding it back. But after listening to feedback from residents, we’re bringing fresh life to the park—making it a place the whole community can enjoy, families and dog owners alike.
What’s coming: Two brand-new, inclusive play areas designed for children aged 2-14, featuring climbing frames, slides, swings, sensory play, and accessible equipment so children of all abilities can play together. Safe, year-round surfacing ideal for prams, wheelchairs, and little feet. A modernised, fully enclosed Bark Park, giving dogs a safe space to run, explore, and socialise—complete with agility features like tunnels and podiums, plus sensory planting for extra stimulation.
Whether you're visiting with your children, walking the dog, or just enjoying some fresh air, the regenerated Manor Green Park will be a space for everyone to connect, play, and unwind.
Bringing the community together—young, old, and four-legged friends alike.
Stay tuned for updates—we can’t wait to welcome you to the new and improved park!”
On Thursday Donna had Chichester District Council’s Grants & Concessions Panel and Ian and I had our fortnightly Meeting with Selsey Town Council's Senior Team. Today, Friday, Ian and I had a further STC meeting while Donna had Full West Sussex County Council. It included an update on the next steps for local government reorganisation. West Sussex, East Sussex, Brighton & Hove and all our District and Borough Councils are shortlisting Unitary Authority options for the Government to consider. Once whittled down, residents will be consulted.
You can watch meetings live: CDC and WSCC.
Next weekend sees the free food event aimed at showing people how to eat healthy and cook satisfying meals on Saturday 29 March in the centre of Chichester from 10am to 6pm.
Next month the Selsey Centre is hosting three drop-in exhibitions about the options for possible new sea defences. There was a preview from Coastal Partners on Tuesday at Selsey's Annual Town Meeting because this is something of interest to everyone who lives in the southern part of our District - if Selsey is not protected, who will be at risk of flooding next?
The three events will provide an opportunity to learn about the new coastal scheme, share your thoughts, and meet the project team. They are on Thursday 24th April (10 - 2pm,) Friday 25th April (2 - 7pm) and Saturday 26th April (10 - 2pm.)

West Sussex County Council is supporting a major NHS England breast screening campaign, which aims to detect thousands of cancers earlier by highlighting the benefits of screening and encouraging more people to make the most of regular mammogram. Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK. In West Sussex rates have declined since before the pandemic when it was 74.9 % (2019), compared to 74.5% in England.
About one in eight women in the UK are diagnosed with breast cancer during their lifetime. The NHS Breast Screening Programme saves 1,300 lives from breast cancer each year in the UK and for every 1,000 screens, around nine breast cancers are found, diagnosed and treated earlier, offering the best chance of recovery.
The NHS breast screening programme invites anyone registered with a GP as female aged from 50 up to their 71st birthday for NHS breast screening every three years. Women will automatically get their first invite for breast screening between the ages of 50 and 53. If you’re a transgender man, a transgender woman or a non-binary person, you may be invited automatically, or you may need to talk to your GP surgery or call the local breast screening service to ask for an appointment.
People are encouraged to check their breasts/chest by regular self-examination (around once a month), to get to know what is normal for them. Any changes noticed that are not normal should be checked by your GP.
Residents can boost their work-based skills and professional development thanks to a free careers clinic taking place in Chichester on Wednesday 26 March. The free community event will take place from 10am to 1pm in the Chichester District Council offices at East Pallant House, where residents will be able to speak to a member of the Choose Work team to access free one-to-one support. If people would like to attend the clinic, they need to email the team at choosework@chichester.gov.uk.
Finally: -
As always, from the whole Team, stay safe.
