Welcome to this week’s blog - thanks for having a read.

Last week Ali liked my mention of Donna coming home to flowers from her self-styled *Mystery Man” on Valentine’s Day. She is a bit of a romantic too and proposed to her husband on Valentine’s Day 51 years ago, just over a year after they met. In 1973 she walked up to him at a Corporal's Mess Disco her friends had taken her to - they all had army boyfriends and she was left on her own in the bar: -

There was a soldier further down the bar wearing a camouflage kit. I went up to him and said: "Why are you wearing a jungle suit? If you want to disappear, you should be wearing a brick suit"

His reply .... "Go away little girl and stop being so pathetic".

We laughed and chatted all evening.

Next night I went, he was the DJ playing Northern Soul. I waved my arms and said "It's me, the pathetic little girl"  The rest is history …”

In regards to Sussex devolution, the Government consultation on the Mayoralty is now live.

This week the team had the first of the new monthly Full Selsey Town Council meetings. There is a lot going on and we need to increase the number of times we meet as a Full Council. Amongst other things, we discussed play equipment, traffic calming and cycle routes. Next week’s biggest meeting is CDC’s budget meeting which consequently finalises our Council tax.

You can watch meetings live: CDC and WSCC.

On Sunday March 16th the Cross Market & More returns to the City, while two days later on the 18th it is Selsey's Annual Town Meeting in the Selsey Centre at 6.30pm. Also in the Selsey Centre, in April, there are drop-in exhibitions about the options for possible new sea defence.

If you travel to Hindhead you can see some Exmoor ponies - https://www.getsurrey.co.uk/news/surrey-news/exmoor-ponies-introduced-one-best-30982694

Upcoming scheduled maintenance work along our coastal frontage is set to commence on Friday 28th February for approximately two weeks, including: -

  • Replacement of three navigation beacons (one at East Wittering Beach and two at The Bill), along with repairs to two additional beacons at East Wittering Beach.

  • Repairs to timber groynes along East Beach, The Bill, and West Beach, Selsey.

  • Removal of metalwork at various locations.

  • Concrete repairs to the apron at East Beach near Lifeboat Way.

Work will begin at East Wittering Beach on Friday 28th February, before moving to East Beach, Selsey on Monday 3rd March. Standard working hours will be from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, Monday to Friday. However, due to tide times, there may be instances where work extends beyond these hours.

Small and independent shops in our District are able to improve their shop frontages thanks to a new fund launched by CDC. Eligible businesses can bid for 50% of their costs (excluding VAT), up to a maximum grant of £3,000. Interested businesses are asked to complete an expression of interest form by 7 March 2025 .

Finally: -

As always, from the whole Team, stay safe.
