Yes, No or Maybe?
Do you like changing the clocks? A recent Mori survey suggests most of us don't. There are good economic reasons for popular areas like ours to stay on BST / GMT+1 so I don't understand why we take so long to change them again after the shortest day. If we made it GMT's midpoint, they would go forward in time for Valentines Day. (By chance the Saturday in 1999 when Donna and I went on our first date.)
I want to quickly thank a former student I met when I went for my winter flu jab for their professional service and a fellow District Councillor who recently congratulated me on the blog. I won't name them but thank you both very much.
Could you imagine electricity generated in a desert being supplied to the UK? Neither could I until I saw this. Teaching Computer Science, I do my best to keep abreast of emerging technologies but I still am impressed by human ingenuity. My students not only don't remember the world before the iPhone (pre-2007), they struggle to remember a world where watches were not smart (pre-2017.)
This week, Donna spoke at a WSCC Task and Finish group who decided, in relation to Marjorie Cobby, the Peninsula’s intermediate care facility, to recommend to Cabinet that a decision re its closure is delayed for 6 months. A small victory, but Cabinet can still refuse the recommendation.
We welcomed confirmation that CDC will help fund Community Wardens for another year. They operate in Chichester, Selsey, Tangmere, Oving, and the Witterings. Donna and I argued that they help reduce low-level crime and tackle social issues. We also pointed out that parishes have had to step in to save other valued services: on the Peninsula the Mobile Recycling service no longer funded by WSCC, and Selsey Town Council also took on some front desk provision to save residents travelling to Chichester.
And finally: -
CDC have organised a free home energy event at Chichester College on the 29th.
CDC’s Countdown to Christmas event starts on November 11.
This is CDC’s Calendar of Meetings, and this is West Sussex.
This site helps you find out about temporary road closures.
As always, from the whole Team, stay safe.
