Welcome to our first blog of February 2024. This week we have our fifth birthday, and what a rollercoaster since 2019 it has been. We remain one of the smallest, if not the smallest, registered group of the 300 plus on the Electoral Commission’s books, but because of the trust you continue to place in us, have the second highest number of Councillors in our District and lead the Official Opposition on CDC.  It has been a busy week again. Donna has had meetings most days including the Harbour Conservancy on Monday and CDC commitments during the week. On Tuesday, I had CDC’s Budget Review Group, while on Wednesday evening the whole team had a presentation to Members of Selsey Town Council from Coastal Partners about the Selsey sea defences. CDC is applying for a grant to undertake an extensive study into future proofing solutions that might better safeguard 1300 homes in the long term. The Selsey sea defences recommendation, to apply for a grant to undertake an extensive study into future proofing solutions that might better safeguard 1300 homes here, was approved by Full CDC on Tuesday: Jonathan Brown (Liberal Democrat), the Deputy Leader, described it as the single biggest action CDC could take to mitigate the impact of Climate Change. I welcomed it on all our behalf and pointed out that as our District struggles to find land for houses, we could not afford to lose as many as 1300 homes.   Welcome to our third blog of 2024, and thank you for taking the time to have a read. Unfortunately, Monday was Blue Monday, the day each year when historically absence from work is at its highest. It is thought this is because the third Monday in January is some way before many people get paid again, after an early December payday which gets gobbled up by the Festive period. Of course, the days remain short with less clement weather.
